Charlotte County Commissioner Robert Skidmore won't be prosecuted are the politically connected above the law?
Charlotte County Commissioner Robert Skidmore will not be prosecuted for an altercation in May with his roommate and political mentor, officials announced Friday.
The State Attorney's Office in Sarasota released a statement saying that Skidmore's friend, 70-year-old Richard Holden of Port Charlotte, did not want to press charges and there is not enough evidence to prove the assault allegations.
Skidmore, 28, of Englewood, tussled with Holden in May during a late-night confrontation that Holden said was fueled by Skidmore's substance abuse. The fight left Holden with multiple bruises and broken ribs, according to the state attorney's investigation.
Holden told authorities that Skidmore, who is married, had been living with him temporarily and was out drinking with his father and another unnamed individual on the night of May 28.
When Skidmore returned, Holden said he confronted him about abusing alcohol and prescription drugs and Skidmore flew into a rage, punching Holden in the jaw and wrestling him to the floor, according to a report.
